Legal Aid WA

Providing legal information to WA.

Visit Site

Legal Aid are the largest provider of legal aid services in Western Australia, with around 300 lawyers and support staff in 9 offices covering Perth and regional WA.

The Challenge

Legal Aid WA engaged Itomic to redevelop their website. They had a library of legal information to present to the public that required a complete rethink of how to architect the content. They needed an enterprise content management system (ECMS) that could accommodate this content while supporting complex permissions and rich media.

Legal Aid WA promotes access to legal services for all West Australians.

The Approach

The project required a collaborative effort of research & discovery which included a full internal content audit.

The deliverables were broken down into phases and the releases were staggered to match.

Drupal was chosen as the preferred platform based on its scalability, adaptability & accessibility.

The Solution

The Drupal 8 implementation handles Legal Aid’s large volume of content while offering all of the necessary finer controls of an ECMS such as user permission matrix, approval work flow, high performance search, and admin-friendly menu and sitemap management.

The Results

The new Legal Aid WA site has been praised by its core users, primarily the LAWA support staff. Superior UX (user experience) and UI (user interface) have resulted in reduced call times for support calls. The website administrators are also enjoying the intuitive CMS.

Since launch, Legal Aid WA and Itomic continue to work together to extend functionality and improve the platform by taking advantage of more advanced features of Drupal 8.

What’s more work has begun on a side project – mobile app and website, titled Blurred Borders. Blurred Borders provides resource kits for legal and community service providers working with Aboriginal people. The kits use visual art and storytelling to help explain key legal concepts in a culturally accessible way.
