It was 50 years ago today in 1964 that the first IBM System 360 mainframe was unveiled. The machines made it possible to upgrade the processors but still keep using the same code and peripherals from earlier models. Somewhat surprisingly in this age of cloud computing, mainframes are still going strong, still crunching numbers. Happy Birthday Mr/Mrs Mainframe!
