Having a baby? The Baby Name Wizard is just what the doctor ordered!

Know anyone who’s having a baby? (We do, but that’s another story). Speaking from personal experience (4x) I can advise you that telling your pregnant friends what YOUR favourite baby names are isn’t typically very cool. But sharing with them a link to a website that helps them learn about names in a multitude of different ways is much cooler.

This site in question is The Baby Name Wizard. It’s a little USA-centric in some places, but once you get over that you’ll find a wealth of information about any name you can think of, and then some. A quick search on my name ‘Ross’ tells me than mine is the 48th most popular name in Scotland, #82 in Ireland and #845 in the USA. The popularity of my name was in steady decline since the 1880s but climbed sharply in popularity in the 1970s (just after I was born – surely a coincidence?!), peaked in the 1980’s, but it’s been all downhill ever since.

If you’re looking for help choosing a name, perhaps try the Advanced Baby Name Finder. But if you truly want to cut straight to the Wwwow Factor, look no further than the NameVoyager. Start typing in a name and marvel at the wonder of a Java-powered chart that adapts as you type. Be sure to move your mouse pointer over the graph for even more information.
