We’re very pleased to report that, today, one of our website hosting servers achieved a full year of 100% uptime. That’s 24/7 of uninterrupted operation for all the websites hosted on it.
There are a wide range of reasons why the vast majority of servers never achieve 100% uptime for a year or more. Typical reasons include:
- A server re-start is required to complete the installation of new or upgraded software.
- Technical (hardware or software) fauits.
- DDOS attacks and/or websites being extremely heavily visited for legitimate reasons (e.g. being featured on a tv show)
- Overloading the server with too many websites
Indeed, the average uptime for all our servers has never been higher. Why? Simply that we’ve pushed more resources towards pro-active server administration. The more time we spend doing pro-active work, the less time we spend having to do re-active work (when a server is down or performing poorly), and the happier our hosting clients are. It’s a win-win.
Thanks particularly to Itomicans Adrian (in Australia) and David (in the UK) for their skills and efforts in this regard. Let’s keep that average uptime going up and up!
