If there’s one thing constant about information technology, it’s that it’s constantly changing. Which means that if you run you might be able to stand still, and if you sprint you might be able to get ahead!
Here at Itomic we’ve been sprinting these last 6 months with regard to our website hosting services – all at no extra charge to our clients. Some of the many improvements we’ve made are:
- Better backups. More dedicated backup services with more physical separation of storage from our primary website hosting services. Plus we’re retaining copies of backups for longer.
- Better spamming detection and response. If your site and/or email addresses are being abused by spammers, we’ll detect it and close it down faster.
- Faster server provisioning and recovery. We’re now using SaltStack to provision our servers. We can spin up a new server with optimum configuration settings in no time at all – which is also very handy in a DR (disaster recovery) scenario.
- Better server standardisation. Also thanks to SaltStack, we can ensure that enhancements made to one server are more quickly and reliably pushed to all other relevant servers. Sharing the love.
- Better server monitoring. Using OpenNMS we can more accurately measure the health of our website hosting servers across a wider array of potential issues.
- Enhanced security. OSSEC is now helping us to detect and respond more rapidly to actual or potential security issues.
- More robust name servers.
We’ve made big advances, but we’ve still got more to-do.
