Itomic to attend auDA Domain Name presentation at the Sheraton

October 6, 2009

Representatives of Itomic are looking forward to attending a presentation by the Australian Domain Name Administrator (auDA) at Sheraton Hotel, Perth on Monday October 19th 2009.

auDA is the policy authority and industry self-regulatory body for the .au domain space. This means that they are where the buck stops when it comes to anything to do with Australian domain names, i.e. domain names that end in .au.

The presentation is titled “The Changing Domain Name Marketplace – Challenges, opportunities and stakeholder engagement”. As an authorised reseller of .au domain names, it’s Itomic’s responsibility and pleasure to ensure that we’re kept up-to-date with such matters in order to better service and advise our valued clients.

Some of the questions and challenges, locally and nationally, direct and indirect, in relation to domain names include:

  • The proposed structural separation of Telstra
  • Internet filtering/censorship
  • National Broadband Network rollout
  • ICANN (the global manage of the domain name system) initiated a process towards the introduction of an almost unlimited number of generic top level domains (gTLD’s). Current domains such as .com and .net could be joined by .food, .sports or .ibm.
